When a vehicle is written off by an insurer, it's recorded on the Written-Off Vehicle Register (WOVR) as either a repairable write-off or a statutory write-off. Repairable write-offs can be returned to the road - but only after they pass a Written-Off Vehicle Inspection.
What is a WOVI?
A WOVI is a specialised inspection carried out at approved Queensland stations. Unlike a standard safety certificate, it focuses on confirming the vehicle's identity - to combat rebirthing and stolen-parts fraud - and verifying that the damage recorded on the WOVR has been repaired to a safe standard.
Who needs a WOVI?
Anyone wanting to re-register a repairable write-off in Queensland needs to pass a WOVI. This includes vehicles bought at salvage auctions from the likes of Pickles, Manheim, Lloyds and Grays, as well as privately purchased repairable write-offs.

WOVI vs safety certificate
